"The 3R's" Using iPad in Reading
This video shows 6 year old students using iPads and iPod Touches to help with their reading skills. The students are provided these technologies and they use them in the classroom as an important tool to help in their learning. The level of LoTi used by the teacher in the classroom is 4-B – Integration – Routine, because the iPads and iPods are integrated in a routine manner that provides context for students understanding of reading. By allowing her students to listen to a recording of their reading aloud, the teacher is using technology to allow her students to solve any deficiencies and improve their reading skills. This approach helps students to become creative and critical thinkers, because it requires them to analyze themselves, determine deficiencies, and correct their own mistakes. They are not simply being told they are doing something wrong or right, but they are analyzing their reading for themselves, which requires critical thinking. Their creativity is enhanced through the use of the various applications on the iPads. The students appear engaged because they are having fun at the same time that they are learning to read. It is possible that they use iPads at home to play and now can use them in the classroom to learn, which helps them stay on task.

I love this video. I think that iPads used in this manner are really beneficial for both the students and the teacher. The teacher will be able to save time listening to each student read and will also have evidence of the students' abilities. For the student, as you said, they are using critical thinking skills and can also hear what they are having a problem with rather than just being told. It works out for everyone.
