Sugata Mitra's Experiment

Mitra’s lecture goes to the heart of the topic for the week.  He explains how students are simply drawn to technology and that the students he observed learned effectively on their own through the use of technology.  A big cause of this is that modern students simply love to use technology, such as computers and the internet.  In one of Mitra’s experiments, students who never went to school started learning and were interested because Mitra installed a computer in the wall of their classroom.   He showed that through the use of technology students are able to teach themselves and enjoy doing it.  Based on viewing his lecture, it seems that children are simply drawn to the use of computers and the internet.   Mitra also shows through his experiments that students can learn on their own to a very high degree, especially through the use of computers and technology, even without a teacher being present.  This amazes me, but at the same time it makes sense.  Children are naturally inquisitive and love to find out new things.  Without the strict structure of a formal classroom and through the use of some of their favorite technologies, children excel at learning according to Mitra.  This clearly shows that through the use of technology, students can increase their independence, problem solving abilities, critical thinking and creativity, and enhance their ability to learn.
