I read an intriguing article that
discusses the use of WebQuests called “The Learning Power of WebQuests” by Tom
March from the December 2003/January 2004 edition of Educational Leadership. WebQuests
are inquiry based activities in which some or all of the information that
learners interact with come from resources on the web. However, it is not as simple as just copying
and pasting information from one website into your work. A WeQuest based activity requires a student
to interpret and analyze information on the web based on open-ended questions
where their creativity and research skills can truly be developed. I feel in a Spanish classroom this could be
extremely helpful. I could design
WebQuest based homework assignments or group projects on Spanish culture and
history, or have students introduced to Spanish grammar concepts through online
resources and then develop assignments based off of them. I feel the use of WebQuests is a fun way to
get students to take the initiative for their own learning, be creative problem
solvers, and use technology at the same time.
