Khan Academy and The Concept of Flipped Classroom

My group member and I met today. We watched the video of the presentation by Khan. We agreed with Khans’s academy view of teaching to mastery instead of simply presenting material. Just presenting the material is not enough. Students need to grasp it, understand and master it to truly have learned it.

My group member and I disagreed with Khan on his opinion that teachers are no longer needed in the classroom. We both felt that it is important to have a teacher in the classroom to facilitate learning and help out students who need help. I feel that it is great to use technology in the classroom to keep lessons more interactive and fun for the students; however, it should not replace the teacher herself. Teachers organize class activities, help students learns, provide extra help when needed, and keep order in the classroom. All of these elements are important. Khan’s teacherless classroom where everything is taught through distance learning, the internet, and teachers of video may work in an ideal classroom where every student is well-behaved, eager to learn, and can pick up the material with little help.

To formulate your own opinion, watch this video.
